I have been an I&C Tech for more than 20 years now, mainly in Nuclear Power.
I have been living in the Denver area for the past few years and have been trying to "get off the road" because I really like it here.
But finding the right job here is not easy, and from time to time I've had to get back in my car and drive to where the money is.
I just got home from an honest-to-goodness nightmare in Mississippi and I though I should share that experience here. Hopefully you folks may benefit from it.
I went to Mississippi for a three week ***ignment. It was a job shop I've never heard of before (RCM Technologies) and a plant I'd never been to (Grand Gulf Nuclear Station).
The pay was low, but I needed a job and there it was. I had certain misgivings about going to the "Deep South", having heard numerous horror stories about their treatment of "Yankees". I have worked in Texas, lived there for about 5 years as a matter of fact, and while they talk a lot about Yankees and snowbirds, that's all it is -- just talk.
The stories were so outrageous that I thought they must be from the previous century--or maybe the one before that! I heard a lot of horror stories about New York City too, but I worked at Indian Point once and visited Manhattan on the weekends. I had a great time.
So I went to Mississippi with an open mind. Big mistake!
I didn't have any trouble with the plant or the people there, or even my employer. No, my troubles began when the Vicksburg Police caught sight of my Colorado license plates.
Now, there is a LOT more to this story, but I will wait to see if anyone is interested in hearing more of it. Webmaster, if this needs to be moved to another forum (or you don't want it posted) please let me know.
